What does it mean to be loud?
Changing the story

Be Loud Radio is a free Saturday and summer program where middle schoolers learn to write, record, and edit radio stories, and interview leaders and culture-bearers across New Orleans. With coaching from high school mentors, “DJs” create segments that highlight who they are and what they care about. Their work airs locally as Be Loud Radio—a weekly, youth-run FM broadcast and a podcast that releases two episodes per month.

Be Loud isn’t just about making radio. It’s about changing the story.

Harmful narratives often frame teens as disengaged or problematic. We challenge those ideas by trusting young people as creators and culture shapers

pass the mic

The Pass The Mic is a yearlong fellowship that supports New Orleans teachers in building youth voice through audio storytelling. Be Loud provides fellows with the equipment, training, and financial support needed to run classroom-based audio projects. The fellowship creates a network of educators who believe students deserve to be heard and helps bring those voices to local radio and podcast audiences.
